Beko fridge fire risk

Thursday, 21 July 2011 01:53

sad
The London Fire Brigade have issued an urgent warning of a fire risk to certain Beko fridge freezer models. They say that the fridge freezers have been responsible for 20 fires since 2008.

Beko are sending out engineers to fix the part that is causing the fire risk free of charge. It is a modification that will take around 30minutes. There are over 500,000 fridge freezers that might have the fault and Beko are asking anyone who has an affected model to get in contact with them straight away.

To find out if your model is affected you can type your fridge freezers model and serial number into the Beko website:

There is also a really helpful Q&A on the Which? Website

Drop-in for careers advice

Are you aged 19 or over and looking to assess your skills, get new qualifications, find the right job, develop your CV or get financial support for your learning? If so, then a new programme called Next Step could help!

This summer Matthew Barton, our Community Development Officer, met Hugh Sillett from Next Step to find out more about his work. “I was really impressed with the service that he has been providing to people in Wiltshire and if you are over 19 years of age this maybe for you,” said Matthew.

Next Step works across Wiltshire giving advice on training, careers and employment to those over the age of 19. Hugh will be able to meet with you on a one to one basis so that he can get a better idea of your situation and provide you with some advice. The first session is free for everyone whatever your circumstances, and if you are on a low income, in receipt of benefits, a lone parent, have been made redundant, or are unemployed you will be entitled to a further two sessions at no charge!

If you are looking for some help with your CV then keep an eye out for some group sessions that Hugh is hoping to start.  We will advertise them on our website and in the ‘R’ Magazine.

Hugh runs drop-in sessions across the areas of Wiltshire covered by Radian. If you’d like to have a chat, you can find him at the following locations:

  • Salisbury Job Centre – Monday afternoons, Tuesday afternoons and all day Friday
  • Bemerton Heath Neighbourhood Centre, Pinewood Way, Salisbury – Wednesday afternoon
  • The Bowman Centre, Archers Gate, Amesbury – Thursday morning

Watching out for each other

Summer’s coming and at this time of year we notice a sharp increase of reports about parties, barbecues, children playing outside, teenagers gathering and music being played loudly amongst other things.

Radian expects all its residents to treat others living in their neighbourhood fairly. Please consider that others may not want to listen to your music or share the communal areas as a temporary family fun park.

If you are having a “one-off party”, let them know and the time it will end.

Are there any events in your community that you could attend? Would you like to share a community event with us? Contact Radian on 0300 123 1567.

Top Five Cleaning Tips

Sticky labels can easily be removed from glasses and ceramics with plain old-fashioned lighter fluid. The fluid will quickly evaporate and you can wipe off the residue with a cloth or tissue.

If you are buying a painting for a smallish room, you can’t beat an image of a window scene to open it up and make it seem more spacious.

Make skinning garlic a much simpler process by soaking the cloves in water for an hour before the task – it’ll make your job much quicker and easier.

Remove small oil stains from clothing with a medium hot iron and a clean rag. First put the item with the stain on the ironing board, single thickness, then sprinkle with talcum powder to cover the stain. Next place the rag or a piece of cloth over the patch, and run the iron over the rag/cloth for about 10 seconds. Bye-bye stain.

If you’re struggling to remove the inevitable build-up of sand you have accumulated after a day at the beach, simply sprinkle some talcum powder over yourself. The sand comes right off as you brush away the powder, leaving you feeling soft rather
than gritty!
